Tide’s Reach

By: Frances Crossan Blanchard

Limestone slabs protrude from sea

and tilt to face the sun.

Without warning, salt laden rain

drives down at a mirrored angle.

Criss crossing cracks,  remnants of ancient games,

of Xs and Os lie underfoot.

These fertile grikes store memories and dreams.

Then life comes into focus in ochre, linen and green

Periwinkle, lichen and carrageen.

Peripheral view halts  at clumps of tenacious Sea Pinks

Armeria Maritima

This salt tolerant flowering plant steals the show.

Eyes pivot and spring arrives

at Tide’s Reach.
